Our research focuses on the development of nanostructures for photonic and electronic nanosystems. The unique advantages of nanomaterials offer a versatile platform for addressing fundamental science issues, and open up oppotunities for new technologies. The research carried out in our group include (1) rational design and synthesis of functional nanomaterials, especially nanoscale heterostructres; (2) investigation of the fundamental correlation between nanostructures and their optical/electrical properties, by advanced electron microscopic studies, transport measurements and a variety of spectroscopic characterization; and (3) developing novel device applications such as nanoscale light-emitting diodes, nanowire lasers, one-dimensional high mobility transistor and high-efficiency energy conversion devices.
